Cutting Lessons

Expert instruction for the first time cutter or a tune up to improve your showing skills

MichelleRainbow Run Farm is the premier facility in the Northeast for cutting. There are excellent lesson horses for the beginner, and there are always cattle available for more advanced riders to work with.  If you’re a beginner and completely new to the sport of cutting, ready to move forward with your lessons and begin competing, or just in need of a quick tune-up for you and your horse, there is a lesson for you.

In case you’re new to cutting, here’s a brief introduction.  Cutting originated in the West where cutting horses, or Quarter Horses, were used to separate cows for vaccinating, castrating, and branding.  As so many other sports have evolved, this simple chore developed into a fast-paced, intense competition where the perfect blend of training, breeding, and riding were needed to take home the prize.  Horse and rider were judged on their ability to separate a single cow from a herd and keep it separated for a period of time.

Now, cutting is one of the fastest-growing equine sports in the world and Rainbow Run Farm provides a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to this distinctive sport. You will have the opportunity to learn to cut cattle on world class cutting horses, not to mention expert horse training and coaching by NCHA professional cutting horse trainer, Foster Johnston.  Rainbow Run offers clinics and buckle cuttings to further your interest.  Everyone is invited to participate.
